I applied for a new Planning job last August with SSI (taking over from British Steel) and thought I hadn't got it when I heard nothing for weeks. I got an email in November to let me know I was still being considered... then heard nothing til January when I got invited for interview... and heard nothing until the end of March. They offered me a job as long as I passed a medical - which I had yesterday...
I start on 14th May so have been and handed my notice in (I'm on holiday this week)
The benefits... I'll be able to climb a career ladder (not available where I am) I'll save about £700 on petrol as this job is 5 minutes away I'll have a pay increase (with regular assessments and increases as long as I'm doing my job well) I'll have a lump sum disturbance payment if I have to work overtime (in the work I do overtime is fairly common) and at the end of the year if the Company does well I'll get a bonus All in all I could earn almost double what I'm earning at the moment!
It took me years to get into planning (it's a mans world) and I've spent thousands taking courses in Planning and Project Management and I feel now as though I might get where I want to be.
